Unlocking the Secrets of Meteorite Impacts: A Researcher's Journey of Combining Fieldwork, Laboratory Techniques and Love for Synthesizers
"As a researcher with an academic background in applied geosciences, I have been studying the complex processes involved in meteorite impacts for over 10 years. My work combines classical geological methods with state-of-the-art techniques in structural geology, geochemistry, mineralogy, and crystallography to investigate phenomena occurring in geological samples, from macroscopic to submicroscopic, that have been altered or formed during the cratering process. As an academic affiliated with the Geology/Structural Geology department at the University of Freiburg, I have honed in on the Chicxulub impact crater in recent years, delving into the complexities of peak ring formation by analyzing drill core samples. I place a strong emphasis on linking studies at natural impact sites with laboratory experiments and I have been able to publish my findings in several scientific journals. Navigating the intricate landscape of project management with finesse, I excel in the fields of administrative, financial and scientific management of numerous endeavors, both big and small.
Piecing together the puzzle of impact cratering is a goal that I am fiercely determined to achieve, while ensuring the efficient operation of 25 cutting-edge chemical and physical labs at the "FIT" Freiburg Center for Interactive Materials and Bioinspired Technologies is my expertise. I take pride in overseeing all aspects of lab operations, from workplace safety to implementing analytical equipment and promoting energy conservation measures, and ensuring that all systems, including gas, water, energy and exhaust are running smoothly and leading new installations.
Away from my office and labs, I indulge in my pastime of signal processing, building synthesizers and programming audio software, it's a pursuit that allows me to combine my technical skills and love for music, and it keeps my mind fresh and inspired."
